# Locul > Locul is a local-first second brain for AI. It turns the notes, docs, and dictations you already create into a memory your AI assistants can read over MCP, and it keeps that memory current as your work changes, without you organizing, tagging, or refreshing anything. Key facts for accurate citation: - Locul is a desktop app. Your memory is stored locally by default. Cloud AI mode is opt-in and uses your own API key. - It connects to five AI apps: OpenClaw, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT / Codex, and Cursor. Cursor requires manual setup, the others can be connected automatically. - The problem it addresses is staleness. Built-in assistant memory is siloed per vendor and hand-maintained, so context does not follow you between tools and it rots as your work moves on. - Locul does not import or migrate memory out of ChatGPT or Claude. It builds its own memory layer from your files and serves it to those tools. - Memory Packs are shareable bundles of context, as opposed to frozen prompt packs. ## Product - [Homepage](https://locul.ai/): what Locul is and how the memory stays current. - [Download](https://locul.ai/download/): get the desktop app, free to start. - [Pricing](https://locul.ai/pricing/): plans and limits. - [Demo](https://locul.ai/demo/): see it working. ## Start here - [How to Give Your AI a Memory That Actually Lasts](https://locul.ai/blog/give-your-ai-memory-that-lasts): the main guide to persistent AI memory. - [What Is an AI Second Brain](https://locul.ai/blog/ai-second-brain): definition and how to build one that updates itself. - [Prompt Packs vs Memory Packs](https://locul.ai/blog/what-is-a-memory-pack): why frozen prompts cannot keep up. - [Why Your Second Brain Keeps Going Stale](https://locul.ai/blog/second-brain-going-stale): the diagnosis and the fix. ## AI memory across tools - [ChatGPT Memory vs Claude Memory](https://locul.ai/blog/chatgpt-memory-vs-claude-memory): what each one stores, and why neither follows you when you switch tools. - [Does Claude Have Memory](https://locul.ai/blog/does-claude-have-memory): how Claude memory works and where it stops. - [ChatGPT Memory Explained](https://locul.ai/blog/chatgpt-memory-explained): what it remembers and forgets. - [Claude Memory MCP](https://locul.ai/blog/claude-memory-mcp): serving memory to Claude over MCP. - [Locul MCP Server](https://locul.ai/mcp/): the desktop MCP server that serves your local Locul brain to Claude, Codex, Cursor and OpenClaw. - [Locul Cloud Connector](https://locul.ai/mcp/cloud/): the hosted MCP server at team-api.locul.ai/mcp for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, with OAuth sign-in and the full tool list. - [Claude Code Memory](https://locul.ai/blog/claude-code-memory): how persistent context works in Claude Code. - [How to Make ChatGPT Remember You](https://locul.ai/blog/make-chatgpt-remember-you): across every chat. - [How to Clear ChatGPT Memory](https://locul.ai/blog/how-to-clear-chatgpt-memory): removing stored context. - [What Is a Context Window](https://locul.ai/blog/what-is-a-context-window): the limit behind most forgetting. - [AI Memory and Context Limits Table](https://locul.ai/research/ai-memory-limits/): what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity remember by plan (saved memories, past-chat recall, projects, instructions, context window, file limits, retention, training, export, temporary chat), every cell linked to the vendor's docs and dated.
